From what I have seen on the mighty internets, the mamas with small people are doing the same daily advent activity idea that we are. Whatevs! It is so much fun to start proper Christmas traditions with Lucy. I have an advent calendar from Starbucks that is a bunch of little drawers in the shape of a tree. You flip the drawers around and it makes a festive picture, yahoo. It came with chocolate in but now it has little slippies of paper with an activity on for each day. Lucy is all over pulling out the drawers and putting them back, and so far we have done all of our things! Today's thing was decorating the tree. We put it up on Friday night so we could get her reaction in the morning. She spent half of Friday night throwing up (YAY) but Saturday morning was still cute and happy. I got a video that hopefully I'll post soon.
So! Decorating! Sam explained the technique to her and she was all over it. Total pro. Rather than theming it up this year, we put on all my childhood ornaments in the usual green-and-red-and-white haphazard assortment, because they're more fun that plain old silver, the other option. From these pictures, you can see how seriously Lucy took her task.
Of course we have Starbucks ornaments to go with our Starbucks advent calendar. (Yikes.)
Critiquing her work, seriously.
Christmas with Lucy is turning out to be my favourite thing. She is so joyful about everything - every evergreen is a Christmas tree and worth exclaiming over. She sings along to our mealtime carol (last week was Angels We Have Heard On High; this week is Joy To The World). As we do more festive things, it will get more and more fun. I had no idea how much joy I would get from seeing things from her perspective. My little stinker baloo is just the best.
Here is our lovely glowing tree. Lucy decorated the bottom right. Can you tell?

this is too cute, and Lucy is just such a sweetie! I agree that children add so much to the holidays. At our stage right now it's time to add some little people again, bring back some of that awe & joy...it helps that you share so generously with us your daughter's amazement! thanks so much, Annemarie & Sam!
